The history of artworks has never been so important

The history of artworks has never been so important

Works of art are genuine excerpts of the human genius. Their authenticity needs to be
guaranteed and their history needs to be as complete as possible.
The history of a work may be very hard to trace. We’ll do everything that is possible to
gather the available information.

The origin and whereabouts of the works need to be confirmed as much as possible
through provenance checking.
This is the first thing we do.
You have a name, a catalogue, a book to check related to the provenance or history
of your artwork but you can’t find it?
If it is in a library or an archive in Paris, we’ll go and check it for you.
A label behind a painting, a name, a city, any element can be the start of a search
for provenance.

If you didn’t know already, keep in mind that a confirmed provenance is what makes
a piece more valuablegenuine and legal.
People tend to think everything is online now. But everything is not online.
And Paris is full of resources when it comes to art – modern art, but also
tribal art, antiquities, etc.

Checking a Provenance

Verifying the origin and history of an artwork, providing authentication and documentation to confirm its legitimacy and ownership history, in one word: "provenance". Provenance is the key. And it means checking catalogues, images, letters in several venues...

Specific Research

As a Private Collector, you may want to know more about an artist or a movement. As a Private Gallery, you may want to find rare publishing material (photos, letters...). As a Museum or Foundation, you may want to complete or confirm research for an exhibition. We can search through Paris' infinite offline resources...

All fields are available for research

Lesser known documents, photos and articles might be somewhere available and relevant for the artwork you own in modern art, but also in other fields, such as tribal art or antiquities, design or old masters...
